R&D NESTER IN 38TH EU PVSEC, PRESENTING PAPER ON “CLOUD HEIGHT ESTIMATION USING ALL-SKY IMAGERS”
From 6 to 10 September, R&D Nester participated in this year's edition of the European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition.
The EU PVSEC is the largest international Conference for Photovoltaic research, technologies and applications, and at the same time a top international PV Industry Exhibitions. It gathers the global PV community to conduct business, to network and to present and discuss the latest developments and innovations in Photovoltaics. It is the world renowned science-to-science, business-to-business and science-to-industry platform with a full and only focus on the global PV Solar sector.
This 38th edition welcomed more than 1300 participants and covering an over 800 live presentations, consisting of scientific sessions, engaging panel discussions, in-depth parallel events and market related industry presentations.
R&D Nester presented a paper entitled "Cloud Height Estimation Using All-Sky Imagers".
The content of this paper was produced in the scope of one of R&D Nester's current Project "UltraFor" that studies the investigation of sky recognition methods for the development of forecasting tools.
In this article presented by R&D Nester, two sky observation cameras are used to estimate the height of clouds, aiming at improving the short-term forecast of solar power generation from a solar power plant.
Improved forecast of power generation is key to ensure a secure and reliable system operation (anticipating and avoiding mismatches between generation and consumption), to ensure an efficient power system (reducing possibility of curtailment) and to ensure a sustainable energy system (allowing for an increased share of renewables in the system).
