R&D Nester presents “Market integration of renewables and multi-service storage applications”
R&D Nester participated in the international conference "IEEE PES ISGT Europe 2017," which was held in Torino, Italy, from September 26th to 29th.
The 7th IEEE International Conference on Innovative Smart Grid Technologies "ISGT Europe 2017" is sponsored by the IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES), where most recent innovations in the field of Smart Grids are presented.
Five plenary sessions, four panel sessions, 6 tutorials and 6 workshops have taken place bringing professionals from different sectors, including utilities, technology providers, research institutions and regulators.
Throughout the program, there were more than 350 participants and over 260 papers presented along 36 technical sessions.
Key topics under discussion during this event included: Smart Grid Implementation (mostly at Distribution Level), Power Quality, Network Stability in high RES scenarios, Digitalization; Energy Storage; Distributed Voltage and Frequency Control; Cyber-Security and the trade-off between Reliability and Resilience in low-carbon, low-inertia power systems.
Also included a visit to the Global Real-time Super Lab of the Energy Center of Politecnico di Torino, where a demo event on a "Real-time Multisite Co-simulation across Atlantic for Supporting Energy Transition" was performed simultaneously with the U.S. D.O.E. Idaho National Lab.
Researcher Ricardo Pastor, from the project ‘Renewable Integration Tools', presented a paper entitled "Market integration of renewables and multi-service storage applications" in which the project's team addressed the market integration of RES producers, with a case study based on a PV power plant, and how its combination with energy storage systems may allow, both the reduction of deviations associated with the uncertainty of its primary source, and the participation in multiple markets (e.g. Ancillary Services), expanding its source of revenues and reducing its payback period.
